How In4ra Became One of the First UK IT Providers AI Agents Can Pay Directly

*No card, no account, no human required.*

There's a status code that's been sitting quietly inside the internet since the early 1990s, doing absolutely nothing. HTTP 402 — "Payment Required." Every browser, every server, every piece of web infrastructure has known about it for over three decades. Nobody ever built anything on top of it. Until now.

In September 2025, Coinbase and Cloudflare co-founded an open standard called x402 to finally put it to work. We've spent the last several weeks building it directly into In4ra's own infrastructure — and we're proud of it.

Here's what we built, why it matters, and — because we think claims like this deserve receipts, not just marketing copy — exactly how you can verify every piece of it yourself.

The problem we were solving

We've spent the last several months making in4ra.co.uk something AI agents can actually understand, not just human visitors. Machine-readable descriptions of what we do. Discovery endpoints for the emerging standards that let AI assistants find and query businesses automatically. Tools that let an AI assistant ask "does In4ra support schools?" and get a real answer, instantly, with no human in the loop.

But there was a gap. An AI agent could *discover* that we sell Rapid Response Support Tokens. It couldn't *buy* one. Every path still led back to a phone call or a web form — fine for a human, a dead end for a piece of software acting on someone's behalf.

We built x402 specifically to close that gap. And it's closed.

What we built

We've built and thoroughly proven full, automated payment infrastructure for two of our services: Rapid Response Support Tokens (pre-paid blocks of hands-on IT support, now starting from a lower £260 entry point) and IT Installations & Office Setups. An AI agent — say, one monitoring a client's systems overnight — can discover the offer, pay for it, and trigger a support ticket, genuinely with no human involved in the transaction itself.

No account creation. No card terminal. No waiting for business hours. The entire exchange happens in the time it takes to sign a message — a couple of seconds — and every part of that flow has been tested and independently verified with real, signed cryptographic transactions.

How it actually works, in plain English

1. 1An agent asks for something — in our case, a Rapid Response Token bundle — exactly as it would ask for anything else on the web.
2. 2Our server replies: *"That'll be £260 (paid in USDC, a dollar-pegged digital currency) — here's exactly where to send it."*
3. 3The agent's wallet signs a payment authorisation for precisely that amount and resubmits the request.
4. 4A neutral third party checks the signature is genuine and settles it on the blockchain — never holding the money itself, just verifying and passing it through.
5. 5Payment confirmed, service delivered, done.

We deliberately built this so that our side of the system never holds a private key capable of *moving* money — only a public address capable of *receiving* it. If our systems were ever compromised, there'd be nothing there to steal.

Don't take our word for it

We could just tell you this works. Instead, we tested it exhaustively — real signed cryptographic transactions, settled and independently verified, not simulated, not mocked up for a demo.

Every one of those transactions is permanently recorded on Base (the network we settle through) and publicly checkable on a block explorer right now, by anyone. We didn't just glance at a dashboard summary either: we decoded the raw transaction data ourselves, byte by byte, confirming the exact amount moved between the exact parties, every single time. That's the bar we held ourselves to before calling any of this proven — and it's the same bar you're welcome to check us against.

What this actually means for you

If you're a client: it means the option, in future, to let a trusted AI assistant handle urgent, small IT needs on your behalf — instantly, at 2am if that's when the problem happens, without needing you awake to approve a card payment. Fixed, transparent pricing throughout, with no risk of an assistant committing you to an open-ended spend, since only clearly-priced, one-off services are available this way.

Very few IT support providers — of any size, anywhere in the country — have working, independently verified, agent-native payment infrastructure today. We do.

Where things stand

The infrastructure is built. It's been tested and proven correct with real, independently verifiable transactions, end to end. The one thing left is flipping the switch on full production settlement — a final administrative step, not an open technical question — and we expect that completed imminently. When it is, In4ra becomes one of the very first UK IT providers with genuinely live agent-native payments, not a demo, not a proof of concept — the real thing.

From there, we're already looking at extending automated purchasing to a wider range of services, and exploring the other emerging agent-commerce standards alongside x402.
